2008 Volunteer Stories

About Us

About us

Points of Light Institute is a national nonprofit whose core mission is to inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world. Our collective network – now the largest in the nation – connects 370 civic hubs managing millions of volunteers and 50,000 volunteer-driven community impact projects annually around the country.

Points of Light Institute has three main goals:

  • Citizen Action: Create an engaged citizenry where every individual has the opportunity to make a difference through meaningful civic engagement.
  • Civic Infrastructure: Develop a civic infrastructure equipped with the resources, tools, and knowledge to create change in communities.
  • Campaigns for Impact: Demonstrate the power of citizens actively engaged in changing our world and solving problems.

This call for stories is part of our movement to inspire the nation around what incredible volunteers are doing to transform their communities.

Volunteer stories may be highlighted on this site, considered for national recognition programs, possible news media coverage, and featured at the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service.
